Elemental Matters - an exhibition at chesterwood, stockbridge, MA.

Stephanie Manasseh is the Creative Director of Elemental Matters: The Sculpture of Jonathan Prince, the 2022 Contemporary Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition at Chesterwood, a site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, located in Stockbridge, MA. Cassandra Sohn, Director of Sohn Fine Art, was appointed to curate the show. She is proud to feature a solo exhibition of sculptural works by Jonathan Prince as Chesterwood celebrates the 100-year anniversary of Daniel Chester French's Lincoln Memorial. The outdoor exhibition will be on view July 1 – October 24, 2022 .

The exhibition focuses on Prince’s most recent metal works, which are often mistaken for wood, stone or liquid. This fluidity of matter explores the idea that things we see may not always be what they appear. Though monumental in structure, rooted in perfect geometry and made of metal, Prince’s sculptures possess an innate vulnerability. Each have unique stories, which come alive throughout the grounds at Chesterwood.

Chesterwood is notably one of the earliest venues in the United States to showcase large-scale works in an outdoor setting. Since 1978, Chesterwood has exhibited sculpture by more than 600 emerging and established artists, including Leanard Baskin, Morgan Bulkeley, Herbert Ferber, Glenda Goodacre, Sol LeWitt, Albert Paley, George Ricker, and Richard Stankiewicz.
